Transitioning to Fall:
A Season of Care and Connection

After enduring a hot summer that put many of our seniors at risk, we’re thankful for the cooler weather that fall brings.

At DSCC and KSC, we’re preparing for the long winter months by building up our volunteer teams for essential home services seniors rely on - especially as the weather turns colder.

While all our services are important, some are more critical in the winter months.

Well-Being Checks, Friendly Phone Calls, and Friendly Visits provide regular connection with seniors, helping lift spirits and ensuring seniors are safe and supported.

Services like Home Meal Delivery and Shelf Stable Delivery ensure that homebound seniors receive nutritious meals, while Yard Clean Ups and Minor Home Repairs help keep their homes safe by addressing potential hazards like leaves, debris, and any needed repairs before the harsh winter weather arrives.

Beyond Serving Seniors

Fall is also the perfect time for volunteers to stay busy and connected while helping seniors during the winter season. We offer various one-time and ongoing volunteering opportunities to connect volunteers and seniors.

DSCC & KSC NEWS

A Special Meal Delivery

Seniors love it when people visit them. So when that visit is from one of the local government representatives who fights for older adults, it is a special treat.

Last month, Representative Bill Foster visited our KSC site in Aurora and helped deliver Meals.

Shelf Stable Volunteers

Our next Shelf Stable meal delivery is September 12th.

Shelf stable meals are meals that can stay in senior's pantries so they can always have a nutritious meal to eat.

Volunteering for shelf-stable meal delivery is easy. You'll start at our Lombard office and we'll load your car with food boxes - ready for delivery to seniors. We'll equip you with everything you need to make a senior's day.

Pet Food Donations

Help us fill our Pet Food Pantry before winter.

Many seniors rely on their pets for companionship and to keep away loneliness. In winter particularly, seniors struggle to provide food for their pets.

Our Pet Food & Assistance Program helps when they can't get out to get food or can't afford to buy food.

You can help by donating to our Pet Food & Assistance program, dropping off pet food, or even shipping food to us using our Amazon Wish List.
