Preparing Seniors for a Cozy and Safe Winter Tips for Families and Caregivers
Winter - and the holidays - are both just around the corner. While many people are getting into full "holiday" and "Pumpkin-Spice" mode, we are preparing for the long months ahead. We know winter can affect seniors - especially those who age in their own homes.
Colder weather, shorter days, and frequent gray skies can create a sense of isolation for seniors living alone.
We've put together some valuable tips for supporting the seniors in your life and others in the community as winter sets in.
Being prepared and accepting available help can make life more manageable and enjoyable for you, your loved one, and for caregivers.
We have several ways you can make a difference in the lives of older adults this month.
Pet Food Donation Event
Each year, Lombard Veterinary Hospital launches its Giving With A Thankful Heart Pet Food Drive to collect donations of pet food and supplies which will help seniors needing assistance caring for their trusted companions.
You can join the event by dropping off unopened and non-expired dog and cat food, both dry and wet, treats, and kitty litter at their office.
We will then disperse the items to seniors who are in need of pet food across DuPage and Kane Counties.
We know you will be bombarded with emails, giving campaigns, and fundraisers.
We encourage you to include DuPage Senior Citizens Council in your generosity this year. Your tax-deductible donation helps provide the services local seniors need all year long.
Thank you to the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary Girls from the Naperville Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for decorating bags for senior home-delivered meal recipients!
This year is the 40th running of the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot 5K Run.
The event helps raise funds and awareness for DuPage County's Hunger. This year, seniors of DuPage Senior Citizens Council benefit from the donations and participants.
Whether you run, walk, or donate, you are supporting others.
Be a part of this international event by delivering Shelf Stable Meals to Seniors in DuPage and Kane Counties. Shelf-stable meals are non-perishable meals.
Our team loads meals into your vehicle and you're ready to drop them off to seniors on a route. Our seniors can be comforted knowing they have meals on hand.
