This October, we’re talking about the importance of nutrition and how our meal programs are making a difference for seniors. From Home Delivered Meals to Community Dining and even pet food assistance, we’re here to support our seniors’ health and well-being—one meal at a time.
For many seniors, maintaining a healthy and nutritious diet can be a daily challenge. As we age, our bodies require different nutrients to support overall health, boost immunity, and keep energy levels steady.
But, it's not always easy for seniors to eat right, especially when faced with barriers like decreased appetite, physical limitations, or dietary restrictions.
Add to the struggle, many seniors are on limited or fixed incomes, forcing seniors to often choose between buying nutritious foods or covering other essentials like medication and utilities.
With the rising cost of groceries and the challenges of meal planning, many seniors find themselves at risk of malnutrition.
In fact, according to the National Council on Aging, nearly 1 in 4 older adults has difficulty affording enough food to meet their basic nutritional needs.
At DSCC and KSC, we understand the complexities of these issues, which is why our meal and nutrition programs aim to remove the burden and ensure that no senior has to choose between a healthy meal and other necessities.
Through our Home Delivered Mealsprogram, Community Dining, and Health & Wellness Education programs, we’re committed to ensuring that every senior has access to the nutrition, care, and support they need to live healthy, vibrant lives—because everyone deserves a place at the table.

HOME DELIVERED MEALS
Meals On Wheels - More Than A Meal
Our Home Delivered Meals program goes beyond simply providing food—it's designed to support the health and well-being of seniors in every way.
Every meal we deliver is created under the guidance of a Registered Dietitian to ensure it meets 1/3 of the Dietary Reference Intake established by the U.S. Government for adults aged 60 and over.
With options that include low salt, low cholesterol, vegetarian, diabetic-friendly, and pureed meals, we’re able to accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, ensuring that seniors receive the nutrition they require to thrive.
But our commitment doesn’t stop there.
Each delivery also includes a friendly well-being check, offering a moment of connection and reassurance for both seniors and their families.
This helps us ensure seniors are safe, cared for, and feeling supported.
By taking on the burden of meal planning and preparation, we’re giving seniors the freedom to focus on what really matters: enjoying their day, staying healthy, and maintaining their independence.
COMMUNITY DINING
Sharing Meals and Building Connections
For seniors who can get out and about, our Community Dining events offer a nutritious meal and so much more.
Hosted by our local partners, these gatherings provide an opportunity for active seniors to enjoy a delicious, balanced meal while connecting with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.
It’s a chance to socialize, share stories, and feel a renewed sense of belonging within the community.
Beyond promoting health and nutrition, these events help combat loneliness and create meaningful connections that enrich the lives of everyone who attends.
By bringing people together, our Community Dining program strengthens community bonds and fosters a spirit of friendship and camaraderie—one meal at a time.
Upcoming Community Dining Events
10/15/24 - Monster Mash Halloween Party
11/20/24 - Friendsgiving

HEALTH & WELLNESS EDUCATION
Empowering Seniors to Eat Well and Live Well
Our Health & Wellness Education Program provides seniors with valuable information on making smart food choices, understanding nutrition, and maintaining overall health through what they eat.
From practical tips on building balanced meals to guidance on managing dietary needs, this program empowers seniors to take charge of their health by focusing on the benefits of eating well.
SENIORS AND THEIR PETS
Pet Food & Assistance
For many seniors, pets are family.
However, we noticed some seniors were sacrificing their own nutrition by sharing their meals with their furry companions. To address this, we created the Pet Food & Assistance Program, providing pet food and supplies so seniors can care for their pets without compromising their own health.
By easing the burden of caring for a pet, we help seniors care for their pet while ensuring they have the nutrition and support they need.
You can donate to our Pet Food & Assistance program, drop off pet food, or ship food to us using our Amazon Wish List.
