Celebrating Older Americans Month Flip the Script on Aging
May is a month of renewal, growth, and reflection. It’s also Older Americans Month (OAM)—a national observance that celebrates the strength, wisdom, and contributions of older adults. This year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” encourages all of us to move beyond outdated stereotypes and instead recognize aging as a time of opportunity, connection, and purpose.
At DSCC and KSC, we see that truth every day. Whether it’s through active volunteers, inspiring stories, or our community of supporters, we are reminded that aging is not something to fear—it’s something to honor and embrace.
In this issue, you’ll read about:
Highlights from local partners and volunteers who generously gave their time to serve seniors.
Recaps of special visits from local government officials helping to bring awareness and support to our mission.
A preview of upcoming events—including our 3rd Annual Golf Outing.
This month, let’s all take a moment to recognize the older adults in our lives and community and recommit to serving with purpose, every day of the year.
LOCAL PARTNERS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Carpentersville Rotary Club Thank you to the Carpentersville Rotary Club for donating thoughtful gift bags filled with useful items for the seniors we serve. Your kindness brightened many days!
Congressman Sean Casten Congressman Casten visited our Lombard office to hear firsthand about the challenges seniors face in our region. His commitment to advocacy and awareness is deeply appreciated.
State Representative Terra Costa Howard Rep. Costa Howard also visited our office, later sharing: “The nutritional and social support the Council provides to seniors in our area is incredibly valuable.” Her encouragement means so much to our team and the seniors we serve.
These connections remind us that when communities come together, great things happen. Together, we’re flipping the script on aging and ensuring that older adults are seen, valued, and supported.
Your financial support ensures that we can continue to provide nutritious meals, wellness checks, and meaningful connections to the seniors who rely on us.
Whether it’s a one-time donation or a monthly gift, your generosity helps us sustain and grow these essential services.
Together, we can make sure no senior feels forgotten or left behind.
