Small Acts, Big Impact:
Caring for Seniors This Summer

Summer brings longer days and new challenges for older adults in our community. High temperatures and humidity, limited mobility, and seasonal isolation can make this time of year especially difficult for seniors living alone.

That’s why everything we do at DSCC and KSC is focused on connection, safety, and care.

Whether it's a friendly visit or wellness check, a delivered meal, or a simple reminder that someone cares, every small action makes a big difference. Behind every service is a network of supporters, volunteers, donors, community partners, and people like you who help us deliver on our mission to ensure no senior goes hungry, sits in isolation or is forgotten.

In this email, you’ll see how our community comes together to support our mission through summer and beyond. From health education and pet food donations to emergency preparedness and youth-led projects, there’s so much good happening. We invite you to take a look, get involved, and share in the joy of making a difference.

Thank you for helping us serve with dignity, compassion, and purpose.

SUPPORT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Recognizing the generosity that fuels our work and helps us reach more seniors every day.

Northwestern Medicine
Meals on Wheels

We’re proud to recognize a major gift from Northwestern Medicine, who awarded DSCC a $53,000 grant to support our Home‑Delivered Meals and Senior Dining programs.

This investment helps us continue delivering nutritious meals, wellness checks, and community care to seniors across DuPage and Kane Counties.

We’re grateful for every supporter who helps make this work possible.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Simple ways you can get involved and make a real impact—whether once a month or once a week.

Deliver Shelf-Stable Meals in Early August

Shelf-stable meals are non-perishable, pre-packaged meals that can be stored without refrigeration.

We deliver them to seniors as a backup in case of severe weather, power outages, or other emergencies that may disrupt regular meal delivery. They offer peace of mind, ensuring no one goes without food when it matters most.

Volunteers are needed to help us ensure no senior goes without in an emergency.
